Buzzwords Are Not a Strategy

Back in the day, trading got popular in Sri Lanka because of IQ Option and a wave of binary options platforms. Later people moved to Forex and brokers like XM, and the brokers started running affiliate campaigns aimed at specific districts here.

That is where I see affiliates making fake promises. The honest part is that most of them still do not know what trading actually means, and neither do the people they pull in.

I am not going to cover everything, because there is a whole field behind this. There is the CFA, the Chartered Financial Analyst, and I will not try to explain all of it. But without that kind of knowledge, trading turns into a luck game.

People do not know about the simulations and backtesting that real desks use. They stay at a retail level and still believe they are doing real order flow trading. There are so many buzzwords out there, and everyone loves to repeat them in videos. I think that is the major issue people run into.

Real trading is not about reading some laggy technical indicators. It is about understanding the market, the world, and the economy. If you walk in expecting to earn money from day one, that is not going to happen.

So if you actually want to learn trading, the CFA material is a good place to start. Find the books, and find the latest editions, because mine were 2025 books and this moves fast. Learn it yourself. We now have AI tools like NotebookLM and many others, so there is nothing stopping us from exploring this on our own.

That is also why I stepped away from full-time trading, after doing it for a few years. It connects you with a lot of people, but it is not as fair as a normal job. If you invest in a specific skill instead, you can get better at it and earn more than trading ever paid you. You can keep trading if you want, but my journey went a different way. I would rather build around trading APIs, because I get to do the development and the trading at the same time, and that is something not everyone can easily do. That makes me happier.
